Meet Cindy’s mom, retired elementary school librarian and world’s greatest Dr. Seuss fan.

Mom with Dr Seuss

Our mission: surprise her for her birthday with a visit to the Hats Off to Dr. Seuss exhibit at the Clayton Lane Fine Arts Gallery in Denver. You might remember me talking about wanting to see the original Cat in the Hat hat a few months ago. (Click here to read that post.) What I didn’t say was that this traveling exhibit was coming to Denver, a mere hour away from where we live!

Cindy and I plotted and planned and managed to keep this a secret until the day for Operation Birthday Adventure finally arrived. And this is what happened:

We led her to the gallery with her eyes closed . . .

And she was SO surprised when she saw what was in the window . . .

Our mission was a success!

Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let us take any pictures inside. But if you peek through the glass you can see some of Dr. Seuss’s artwork for sale. I don’t know why Cindy wouldn’t let me hold her credit card while we were there. Come on, I wouldn’t have bought everything in the gallery.

And the hats from Dr. Seuss’s collection? Totally awesome!
