For our fourth and final book, Cindy and I started One of Our Thursdays is Missing by Jasper Fforde. This is the sixth book in the Thursday Next series, a series I highly recommend.
If you’ve never heard of them, they’re a little hard to explain. Thursday (this is her first name) is a literary detective in an alternate reality of Great Britain, circa 1985. Here’s part of the blurb from the back cover of the first book in the series, The Eyre Affair. ”When Jane Eyre is plucked from the pages of Bronte’s novel, Thursday must track down the villain and enter a novel herself to avert a heinous act of literary homicide.”
These books are full of wordplay and inside jokes about reading and genres and other literary references. I find them hysterical!
It was fun to put aside the ToDo list for the weekend and do nothing but READ without feeling the slightest bit guilty. And it was fun knowing that nearly 50 other book lovers were doing the same thing. We read upstairs, downstairs, outside and in the tub. I took this picture of Cindy with two of her real cats giving her moral support.
We totally enjoyed our 48 Hour Book Challenge. Sign us up for next year!
